Here or There
Oliver Jeffers is inspired by the gap that exists between logical thinking and emotional understanding. The captivating collection of work shown in his solo exhibition, presented by Gestalten, which is titled Here or There investigates this chasm. Best known as the Australian born artist and illustrator who creates picture books for children, Jeffers’ paintings tell stories and pose provocative philosophical questions through the masterful use of space in composition. His most recent book, The Hueys in the New Sweater, was just named by the New York Times as one of the Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2012. Here or There also celebrates Gestalten’s release of the artist’s first monograph ‘Neither Here Nor There’. The 160-page hardcover publication features work from the show plus the full spectrum of media and artistic forms that Jeffers employs in his oeuvre, including figurative painting, collage, installation, and sculpture. It is available for €29,90. The exhibition opens on Thursday 29 November 2012 and will run until Sunday 13 January 2013.
