Taking Over the World: Chanel
A rotating globe was a fitting reference to Chanel’s history as the brand presented their AW13 Ready to Wear collection at The Grand Palais, Paris Fashion Week.
Highlighting history and growth as themes for the collection the runway’s centerpiece, the globe, was dotted with small flags signifying each Chanel boutique. From its first store in Deauville, France 100 years ago, Chanel today is know as one of the most iconic fashion houses with stores across the globe in some of the most famed locations.
Dark hues prevailed; experimenting with stabs of colour scatted through the AW13 collection in knitted coats (pictured) and wool jackets. Accessories were too a focal point with models carrying globe shaped handbags and patent fingerless gloves.
The collection retained the elegance that Chanel is renowned for while also featuring a subtle sensuality with the glimpses of flesh, breaking up the structured well-designed pieces.
The collection’s message was clear through all senses, with the music reflecting the global emphasis. The track list encompassed a selection of ‘world’ themed tracks from Dvorak’s classical New World Symphony to the modern classic Daft Punk’s Around the World.
The creative leadership of Karl Lagerfield has spanned a history of 30 years since he joined Chanel.
