Who do you think you are?
LOOK/13, one of the UK’s leading international photography festivals, has invited a dynamic selection of artists to explore the idea of subjectivity, selfhood, and the central theme in question, ‘who do you think you are.
LOOK/13 hosts a diverse program of exhibitions and events, including works from: August Sander; Rankin; Weegee; Martin Parr; Tom Wood; Charles Fréger; Eva Stenram and Kurt Tong.
Acclaimed photographer Rankin’s latest exhibition ‘Alive: In the Face of Death’ is a notable inclusion to the festival. The exhibition includes a selection of newly commissioned images of people who know they are running out of time. Rankin’s series takes an uplifting angle on the subject of death as he focuses on celebrating an individual’s character. Rankin allowed his subjects to have an influence on how they were portrayed; he aimed to bring out “the vitality of each subject, their humour and unique qualities.”
Eva Stenram’s first full solo presentation also responds to the idea of subjectivity. Stenram’s ‘Drape’ project, features found erotic photos from the 1960s that she has subtly manipulated and transformed into unsettling, disarming, sometimes comedic images. Stenram explores the way identity is constructed, embraced and performed for the benefit of the viewer in front of a camera.
LOOK/13 runs until Saturday 15 June 2013, around Liverpool, UK. For a full list of all festival locations, visit: www.lookphotofestival.com
