Piet Hein Eek For Ruinart
Ruinart references the history of the Champagne house through a packaging collaboration with Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek.
Hein Eek was inspired by the fact that Ruinart was the first Champagne house to utilise wooden packaging for their shipping and have been doing so since the 1700s. In homage to their history, Hein Eek has designed a limited edition series of wooden boxes to package the Ruinart bottle’s unique shape.
Known for his work with salvaged wood, the Dutch designer was a fitting choice for the collaboration which also allows him to apply his signature style to the boxes. The material’s history is visible through the pale cream and grey shades of the worn paint. The trapezium shaped boxes are handmade and signed and numbered by Hein Eek’s studio.
The boxes are touring significant art fairs globally with each fair displaying a large-scale installation created from the cases. The sculpture can next be seen during Chicago Expo from Thursday 19 September until Sunday 22 September 2013 before continuing to Art Basel Miami in December.
