Alexander McQueen and Freize London
To celebrate their Freize London partnership, Alexander McQueen’s London stores are displaying a selection of contemporary art throughout the 2013 event.
British Gallery owner Sadie Coles has curated the selection of work that includes pieces from sculptors Jim Lambie and Don Brown. Brown is a figurative sculptor whose work utilises techniques that hark back to classical antiquity; Lambie is known for his vibrant and experimental installations that often incorporate materials from the everyday.
Installed in the Alexander McQueen Old Bond Street store is a piece from Brown’s ongoing series of sculptures of his wife, Yoko, which explores representational ideals. Lambie’s Knight series is displayed in the Savile Row store and features suits of armor and metal objects crushed into dense cubes. The pieces reference the assemblage techniques of pop artists and the uses of found objects associated with the 1960s.
Alexander McQueen is the Associate Sponsor of the 11th edition of the Frieze Art Fair. The Frieze Art Fair runs until Sunday 20 October 2013.
