KRISVANASSCHE: Cognac Sport
The KRISVANASSCHE’s SS14 collection ‘Cognac Sport’ explores the contrasts of sportswear, challenging the perception of the ‘masculine wardrobe.
“There is always an element of contrast in what we do here,” explains Creative Director, Kris Van Assche of his latest collection.
“The idea of sport – an element I have had since my first collection, where all of the shoes were white Stan Smiths with a green logo – versus the grown-up, chic connotations of cognac as both a drink and a classic colour of men’s leather goods, was a combination I wanted to explore.”
The result of Van Assche’s exploration is a collection that is neither ‘sport’ nor ‘chic’, managing a polished aesthetic without being interpreted as ‘dandy’.
Traditional symbols of chic decoration are playfully added as a highlight of knitwear pieces, while shorts are worn with tailored double-breasted jackets. Genres are merged, bringing to life a collection featuring motifs from sportswear into structured menswear and the reverse.
KRISVANASSCHE’s ‘Cognac Sport’ provides men with an option to step away from the codes of masculine identities in menswear, street and sportswear. The wearer can choose each all at once – and have freedom and fun while doing so.
