Chanel: The Return
Chanel is set to release a film titled ‘The Return’ which presents the story of Coco Chanel’s return to fashion in the 1950s. It is directed by Karl Lagerfeld.
The film starring Geraldine Chaplin, looks at the pivotal role that the USA played on Chanel’s comeback. Chanel’s famous Rue Cambon studio was recreated as part of the making of the film, including the iconic-mirrored staircase. The film also touches on the media’s harsh response to Chanel’s initial collections. The 30-minute feature follows on from the 2012 short film ‘Once Upon a Time’ that explored Coco Chanel’s early career in Deauville and Karl Lagerfeld’s reflection of this era. A sample of ‘Once Upon a Time’ can be viewed below.
A number of models, actors and members of the Chanel team are included within the film, cast for their understanding of the craft of dressmaking.
Chanel’s 2013/14 Métiers d’Art runway show will follow the premiere of the film.
‘The Return’ will premiere in Dallas, Texas, USA on Tuesday 10 December, 2013, and will also simultaneously debut online at 6.30pm (CST).
