125 Years of Lanvin
The House of Lanvin founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889 celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.
In 1889, on the corner of rue Boissy d’Anglas and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris, Jeanne Lanvin founded her fashion house. This legendary address would still be home to the couture house many years on. In 1897, her only daughter Marguerite Marie Blanche was born, and soon became her muse and main source of inspiration. Inspired by motherhood, the businesswoman had a new business idea: children’s wear. Progressively, she designed a wardrobe for Marguerite. Jeanne Lanvin had just invented children’s fashion. As Marguerite grew up and became a woman, Lanvin’s style evolved accordingly.
In 1909, Jeanne Lanvin opened the Young Ladies and Women’s departments. She joined the Syndicat de la Couture, the designers’ union, and entered into the very exclusive world of French fashion houses.
Among the actions planned to celebrate their 125 year heritage, Lanvin will reveal a new section of their website in February entitled Lanvin History. Photos of the brand’s heritage unveiled for the first time, archived video footage and original Jeanne Lanvin gouaches will recount 125 years of design.
