Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014
Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is the world’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian furniture and lighting design.
The trade fair attracts around 40,000 visitors who arrive in Stockholm from over 60 countries. Over 700 companies exhibit their furniture, lighting and textile products of which approximately 80 percent of all of the exhibiting companies come from the Scandinavian countries, offering an insight into the contemporary designs of the area.
This year the program is more extensive than ever before, with the introduction of Stockholm Design Talks – a new forum for knowledge and discussions about furniture and interior design. Another addition is a new design area, Twelve, which will offer an indepth look at the style and philosophy of 12 Scandinavian Designers.
Collections on display through the fair represent both contemporary innovation and the history of Scandinavian furniture design. Fox & Freeze, a creative cooperation between two Belgian designers, James Van Vossel and Tom De Vrieze, have developed an indoor lounge chair made from one square sheet of synthetic felt. With no loss of material, the chair begins from a square surface and is twisted to shape. While in a resurgence of history, Helge Sibast’s 1953 chair, Sibast No 8, has been re-launched 60 years on by his grandson.. The chair was part of the Danish design wave in the 1950s and 1960s.
The Fair forms part of Stockholm Design Week, which hosts more than 60 design-related events held at different locations around the city. Stockholm Design Week takes place from Tuesday 4 – Saturday 8 February 2014.
