Gucci Flora Collection
Gucci celebrates 50 years in Japan with a limited edition Flora Collection.
Gucci’s relationship with Japan began during the 1940s, when the brand imported Japanese bamboo for the creation of handbag handles. It wasn’t until 1964 that Gucci open their first store in Tokyo’s Ginza neighbourhood. The opening of the store coincided with the 1964 Olympics, which took place in the Japanese capital. This was the beginning of an enduring relationship.
The limited edition collection will include hand painted flower handbags, silks, shoes, jewellery and women’s Ready to Wear. The sales from a special limited edition scarf will benefit a UNESCO and Gucci-sponsored scholarship program.
The collection will be unveiled, with the intention to show off the brand’s craftsmanship, at an event titled ‘The House of Artisans’ at Isetan Department Store, Shinjuku, Japan. Gucci will also reopen its renovated Aoyama flagship store in May 2014, with the opening set to feature an exhibition of Gucci Première couture gowns.
The Gucci Flora Collection will be available in March 2014, exclusive to Japan.
