Guido Guidi: Veramente
The title Veramente reveals the distinct photographic language of Italian photographer Guido Guidi.
Guidi, a pioneer of new Italian landscape photography, was influenced by architectural history, neorealist Italian film and conceptual art. Using photography as a process and an experience of understanding, Guidi’s body of work frames a visual discourse that revolves around what it means to see, or what it may mean to offer up an image. Bringing together excerpts of his series from 1959 to the present day Veramente explores Guidi’s 40-year career.
The title is without introduction or preface, remaining entirely visual until the final pages. Allowing readers to digest Guidi’s works without influence or reference, it is not until these final pages that readers are provided an insight into his photographs, their influences and context. Text by Marta Dahó examines his practice, visual language and place in the history of contemporary Italian photography.
Veramente is available through MACK. Veramente has been published to accompany an exhibition of Guidi’s work that is on display at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, Paris until Sunday 27 April 2014. The exhibition will then travel to Huis Marseille Museum voor Fotografie, Amsterdam, Netherlands in June and the Museo d’Arte della Città di Ravenna, Italy in October.
