Nike SB x Jordan Air I
The second edition of the Nike SB x Air Jordan I celebrates how a basketball shoe became the skater’s choice.
Originally crafted as a high performance basketball sneaker, Air Jordan I was adopted by skateboarders and introduced innovation to skate culture. Almost three decades after its introduction, it remains one of the most storied skate sneakers.
This latest release has seen the Nike SB and Jordan brands collaborate with legendary skateboarder Lance Mountain. Mountain chose to emphasise how skaters of the era mismatched pairs in order to extend the life of their Jordan’s. To create uniformity they would then paint over each shoe.
The two pairs in the Lance Mountain Nike SB x Air Jordan I series recreate the authentic aesthetic by mismatching both a black/red and black/royal combination in one pair. The colours of the sneakers are then covered with black or white paint. As each pair is worn and the paint wears away to reveal the colours underneath, they will become unique to their wearer.
The second edition of the Nike SB x Air Jordan I designed by Lance Mountain will be available in limited quantities at select Nike SB retailers and online from Saturday 7 June 2014.
