New York celebrates the design diversity throughout the iconic city with the 2014 edition of the citywide festival NYCxDESIGN.

From events, conferences, exhibitions, workshops and films, the city of New York brings design to the forefront of its cultural calendar. Some key events taking place during NYCXDESIGN include:

The Dutch Masters & Aldo Bakker

Presented by Atelier Courbet, Dutch designer Aldo Bakker presents his first solo exhibition in the US. Working with Melanie Courbet, Atelier Courbet’s founder, Bakker has curated a selection of his furniture, homewares and product collaborations. The pieces selected highlight the role of materiality in his work, making use of silver, ceramics and wood. The exhibition is on display at Atelier Courbet from Friday 9 May 2014.

The online art industry – what’s next?

Bringing together a selection of influential personalities from the online art world, a panel will discuss the future growth of the online art industry. Panel members include Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and Director of Saatchi Art; Stephen Tanenbaum, Co-Founder and President of UGallery; and Mallika Rao, Arts Reporter for The Huffington Post. The panel will take place on Thursday 15 May 2014 at UGallery.

100 years of Type Design

The exhibition looks beyond the popularity of type to explore the ongoing influence of typefaces, typography and fonts. A selection of proofs, posters and production drawings highlight the technical side of the genre, while advertisements and publications explore type’s place in popular culture. 100 Years of Type Design is on display at AIGA, New York until Sunday 18 June 2014.
