Venice Architecture Biennale: Augmented Australia
Australia’s exhibition at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale brings to life a selection of unrealised Australian architecture. The exhibition is titled Augmented Australia 1914-2014.
The exhibition brings together 10 contemporary Australian building concepts to accompany 10 historical designs that all remain unbuilt. The projects include undeveloped buildings such as an inner-city cathedral and a jewel cave. The exhibition utilises augmented reality technology to ‘create’ the buildings, with users able to virtually experience the projects and their history through an accompanying app.
“The great part about these contemporary projects is that they are almost completely unknown; however have been submitted by some of the best architects in Australia. Our concept for the exhibition will bring the projects to life for the first time and allow us to explore the ideas and stories behind their design and inception,” said the creative team behind the exhibition.
Augmented Australia 1914-2014 remains on display for the duration of the Biennale, closing on Sunday 23 November 2014. For those who cannot attend the exhibition, the Augmented Australia app is available to download from the Apple App Store (for iOS) and Google Play (for Android).
