Faith 47: Warwick Triangle
Street artist Faith47 has recently completely six looming walls in the heart of Durban in South Africa.
The ambitious project focuses on the Warwick Triangle in Durban and its neighbouring market. Faith47 was specifically interested in exploring this notion of the informal economy and the energy that came from the area. “I was struck by the potent energy of this area. The paintings are portraits of some of the traders in the area, a tribute to the everyday man on the street,” she said.
fluoro recently spoke with Faith47 about her work and how it highlights the ability for buildings to reflect the stories of their past. Read the full interview with Faith47 here.
The works within Warwick Triangle were realised as one of the Fringe Projects of the 25th World Congress on Architecture, UIA 2014 Durban. Faith47 hopes that it will encourage individuals to have space and comfort within the public space of their city. “So much of our shared space and our city architecture is alienating to the individual. Interventions within public spaces allow for a visual gap where people can breathe and feel again.”
