Melbourne Art Fair 2014
Supporting the 2014 edition of the Melbourne Art Fair, a public art program will bring elements of the event to iconic cultural venues around the city.
Elements such as an Art After Hours program, late-night exhibition openings, performance artists on trams and pop-up exhibitions will see Melbourne enlivened as a hub of art and culture.
The public program of the Melbourne Art Fair takes place around the city throughout Melbourne Art Week with highlights including:
The Sketches of Rain – Aesop
During the Art Fair, Aesop’s Collins Street flagship store will be presenting an exhibition curated by Theodore Wohng. Titled The Sketches of Rain, the exhibition features the works of six local contemporary artists who feature in the Fair’s program. The works will hold an interactive element, allowing visitors to the store to reorganise them. Sketches of Rain is on display until Sunday 17 August 2014.
The Angry Penguin – Pop-up Restaurant
The Angry Penguin is a European inspired pop-up restaurant and result of a collaboration between Melbourne chef Ian Curley and Bay Leaf Catering’s Head Chef Derek Boath. The restaurant derives its name from the Australian modernist and literary artist movement that sought to shake up traditional establishments of the 1940s. The Angry Penguin will open from Thursday 14 – Sunday 17 August 2014 at the Collector’s Lounge within the Art Fair.
Art after Hours
The Art After Hours program will see a series of exhibitions, talks and installations take place in iconic venues around Melbourne. Video screenings will be presented at cultural hub Federation Square and restaurant Chin Chin; while wine bar Cumulus Up and Arc One Gallery will present video work by Julie Rrap. Late night art openings will take place at contemporary space ACCA, Anna Pappas Gallery and Fehily Contemporary.
Melbourne Art Week and the public program of the Melbourne Art Fair take place from Monday 11 August until Sunday 17 August 2014.
