ModaLisboa: Legacy
The SS15 season of ModaLisboa was focused on the legacy and heritage of fashion. As the season closes, we look to three collections that are each informed by a different cultural background.
Michał Szulc
Polish designer Michał Szulc brought a point of cultural diversity to the week with his debut at ModaLisboa. The designer is known for his minimal and structured aesthetic and his SS15 collection represented this. The creator of uniforms and costumes in his Warsaw based studio, the essence of Szulc’s heritage came through in the collection. Jackets were notably structured with pockets held to the garment with buttons, while others were completed with silver fringing hanging long from the breast pockets. A series of looks were completed with tan boots and white socks.
Cia.Marítima
The Brazilian beachwear brand is known for expanding the concept of swimwear to garments that capture the lifestyle of the beach. The liveliness of Brazil was captured throughout the SS15 collection and an emphasis was placed on the curves of the female form. The collection opened with a series of bright pink outfits that captured the colours of a sunset, with visuals of palm trees printed throughout. From swimsuits with long sleeves to others with zips and cut outs Cia.Marítima highlighted the diversity of the style.
Pedro Pedro
Pedro Pedro formed his self-titled brand (PedroPedro) in 1998 in Oporto, Portugal. The designer has since contributed to putting Portuguese fashion on the global stage and has shown at Paris Fashion Week. The SS15 PedroPedro collection highlighted an awareness of the possibilities of fabric. The collection was composed of a series of garments in largely neutral shades. The fabrics were twisted and knotted to add detail, designed to reveal and cover flesh.
ModaLisboa will return to Lisbon, Portugal for the AW15/16 season in 2015.
