Transparent City: Travel Map Diary
A map that is not just a map, but invites you to step away from digital technology and transform the visit of a city into something which is totally visible, is the focus of Palomar’s new concept Transparent City: Travel Map Diary.
The new maps, designed by Italy based design company Palomar and Allessandro Maffioletti, have been given the name Transparent City, which recalls Italo Calvino’s novel Italian Cities by antithesis and its focus on expansion of travelling and life during the Marco Polo era.
The maps designs set out to transform the visit of any city by allowing the user to write notes, comments, personal itineraries and memories on a uniquely designed number of adhesive transparent sheets and making Transparent City the urban geography with you as the author.
Palomar and Maffioletti also designed the maps as a counter experience with the cities around us by giving a radically new meaning to the travel experience and acting as a counter-melody to the overwhelming digital technology we’ve become accustomed to use when travelling.
