Introducing Total Giovanni
Eccentric attire, outrageous live shows and erotic dancing. We are talking about Total Giovanni, a quintet of new wave revivalists with a unique sound, which is steadily moving into playlists all around Australia.
Even before the band released their first single last year, Human Animal, a buzz about their energetic and fun live performances was already spreading. Now, the band have released their second single Can’t Control My Love, giving the public yet another taste of their exceptional mish-mash of new wave, disco house music.
fluoro spoke to the groupabout their style, sound, inspiration and the Giovanni empire.
fluoro. Describe your sound in 5 words.
Total Giovanni. Deep erotic love groove exploration.
f. Describe your style in 5 words.
- Flamboyant visceral glittering pulsing necessary.
f. What is your greatest source of inspiration?
- Gay disco clubs in New York circa late 70’s and 80’s. The early house music scene.
f. What is the most important element to you when performing live?
- The connection with the audience, which breaks down preconceived thoughts and washes away inhibitions. This allows pure dance and love to take over.
f. If you weren’t musicians what would you be?
- We’d be importing Italian goods and services direct to Melbourne stores. Postal Giovanni.
f. Why ‘Total Giovanni’?
- Why not Total Giovanni? If it sounds good, say it.
f. Where will you be in 10 years?
- Making new-age records together in a villa on the Ligurian coast [of course, they’re talking about Italy].
f. What can we expect from Total Giovanni in 2015?
- More live heat than Miami season pass. We got a bunch of shows lined up in Melbourne and Sydney, which you should definitely come to. We also have a couple more singles/remixes up our sleeve to release this summer, so looking forward to getting those on to the dance floor.
