AB Concept: New Space
Hong-Kong based design house AB Concept opens their newly renovated creative studio.
The space witnesses the journey from their humble beginnings, reflecting the company’s culture, vision and values in each and every detail. At the core of the refurbishment was the desire to create a space for AB Concept’s designers and creative talents that could inspire them and stir passion.
According to co-founder Ed Ng the space is a concrete manifestation of the company’s vision and values that visually expresses who the team is and how they operate. “As our team is growing in size and strength, we have needed to build a platform that reflects their calibre and allows them to perform to the best of their abilities. In some ways it has been a case of the space catching up with the talent,” explains Ng.
Entering the expanded foyer that incorporates an antique Chinese calligraphy table, visitors quickly get a sense of what to expect within the space. The foyer rooms a diverse collection of vintage furniture, artwork and design pieces from across the world including pieces from Alexander Lamont and CN Flower. Gathered over a decade by Ng and co-founder Terence Ngan, the pieces help create an intimate, homely and personal atmosphere.
“We consider the entire office to be our home,” says Ng. “We wanted it to be a place we live and breathe the design. The space where you spend most of your time will inform your thinking, the way you grow, the way you think, and we wanted this to be a fertile environment for our designers. It had to be a space that would give back, a space that would inspire and nurture creativity.”
The studio features a large area for the design, styling and technical teams with ample space for one of the largest material libraries in the industry. It also includes four creative spaces that function as communication hubs or gallery areas, a state-of-the-art kitchen and a gym for the staff. The area’s diversity is based on the conviction by the founders that ideas are not necessarily born sitting at a desk, but also while relaxing at home.
