Frieze New York 2015
The fourth edition of Frieze New York is set to commence. We offer an insight into the various divisions of the art fair.
The World’s Leading Contemporary Art Galleries
Frieze New York 2015 will be bringing together more than 190 of the world’s prominent contemporary galleries. This year will see a special focus on local New York based galleries with a range of upcoming spaces joining the fair including Acquavella, Clearing, JTT, Pace and Skarstedt.
Particularly promising solo and special presentations will be offered by Philippe Parreno from Pilar Corrias, London, Giuseppe Penone from Marian Goodman, New York and Canan from Rampa, Istanbul among others. Furthermore, presentations will be given by Marilyn Minter and Laurie Simmons from Salon 94, New York and John McCracken and Franz West from David Zwirner, New York, as well as an installation by Iran Do Espírito Santo from Fortes Vilaca, São Paulo.
Spotlight, Frame and Focus
A new section within this year’s edition, which adds to the Frame and Focus sections, is Spotlight featuring solo presentations of 20th century art. This section is curated by Adriano Pedrosa and will explore unusual perspectives from established artists. Further, Spotlight will present new research into art from emerging areas.
A recurring section within Frieze New York is Frame, which features solo presentations by emerging galleries. This section brings an energising input to the art fair and features a range of new additions including Antenna Space from Shanghai, Mathew Gallery from Berlin, and Supplement from London among others.
Finally, Focus puts forward a range of projects created specially for Freize New York from the world’s most forward-thinking galleries of current times. New additions to this section are among others Chi-Wen Gallery from Taipei, Instituto De Visión from Bogotá and Travesia Cuatro from Guadalajara and Madrid.
Frieze Projects, Talks, Sound and Education
Apart from presenting leading contemporary art from across the globe, Frieze New York also includes a non-profit program split into four sections: Projects, Talks, Sound and Education.
The Frieze Projects program features presentations of artists’ commissions curated by Cecilia Alemani. This year participating artists include Korakrit Arunanondchai, Pia Camil, Samara Golden, Aki Sasamoto and Allyson Vieira who will all be presenting site-specific work at the art fair. Frieze Talks on the other hand brings together leading artists, writers, critics and cultural commentators to participate in panel discussions, inspiring visitors and offering them new views and keynote lectures. Frieze Sounds will present a range of commissioned audio works by international artists Alicia Kwade, Xaviera Simmons and Sergei Tcherepnin, while Frieze Education will present high school students from underserved communities with the opportunity to access art programs, workshops and tours for school groups, giving them a chance to immerse into the world of art.
Frieze New York will take place from Thursday 14 May – Sunday 17 May 2015 in New York’s urban oasis, Randall’s Island Park, in the United States.
