adidas Originals: Supershell Project
Pharrell Williams and adidas Originals introduce Supershell, the latest adidas Originals Superstar collection.
The new collection sees Pharrell handpick friends and creatives from around the world to completely reinvent the shoe’s Shelltoe for the very first time, evolving the Superstar collection into a canvas for creation. Artists include New York based contemporary artist Todd James, British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, US photographer and director Cass Bird and Japanese contemporary artist Mr..
Each artist brings to life a unique vision of art that reflects their different creative worlds.
Todd James transforms the toecap into a world of abstract shapes and vibrant colours, Zaha Hadid’s design draws on her world of complex architectural figures creating forms and shadows in the shape of ripples across the toecap. Cass Bird’s design builds on her spontaneity in photography and her ability of capturing moments of beauty, and Mr. brings out his inner child decorating the sneaker toecap with the innocent, playful motifs he is known for. The four styles realised by the artists form part of the collection of ten styles, six of which carry Pharrell’s own artworks, which explore life force, energy and colour. The sneakers will be offered in black and white colourways, keeping the vibrant artworks as centres of attention.
The project will see a limited release and exclusive artworks for different regions around the world. Updates and details on where each design will be released can be found on www.adidas.com.
