Preserving the Legacy of Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta have released their first advertising campaign since Peter Copping took the helm as Creative Director at the House, following de la Renta’s passing in October 2014.
The new campaign for Fall 2015, features American model Carolyn Murphy and was shot in New York City by photographer David Sims. The campaign saw Copping work side by side with stylist Alex White, who has previously styled campaigns for Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.
Forming a defining milestone in numerous ways, Copping’s debut collection as well as the campaign for the House was highly anticipated, as it would determine the direction for which he would take the House. There were elements that were changed, however the true legacy of de la Renta has continued to live on.
This direction was set through the elegant, romantic and timeless feel presented in the campaign. From the extravagance in the garments worn to the cast and the style of the images, it reinforced what the house of Oscar de la Renta has always been known for.
The starring of Carolyn Murphy emphasised the House’s timelessness in a creative manner. With a flawless complexion, minimal makeup and effortless postures Murphy highlighted the key features of each of the pieces she modelled.
“I wanted the Fall Oscar de la Renta campaign to express the couture spirit that has always been associated with the house,” says Copping. Carolyn Murphy, a natural beauty, seen through the lens of David Sims captures perfectly what I was looking for—a modern Oscar woman.
The campaign release coincided with de la Renta’s birthday this month and proved that Copping is continuing to speak the language of the House.
