fluoro Giveaway: The Bakehouse Project
fluoro is giving away two copies of The Bakehouse Project, an art book born out of a music studio, which uniquely blends music, art and photography.
Forming a music landmark in Melbourne, Australia, Bakehouse Studios has, since its founding in 1991 by Helen Marcou and Quincy McLean, offered a creative roof over the heads of thousands of Melbourne’s music makers including Nick Cave, Paul Kelly and the Drones. Every week more than 400 musicians pass through the studio’s rehearsal rooms, ranging from emerging local grassroots regulars to international touring artists.
As a tribute to the passing of Lou Reed Bakehouse Studios’ founders pasted up two large-scale rock posters on the front of their iconic space in October 2013. With more than one million motorists driving past the artwork every week, Marcou and McLean received an overwhelming and emotional response to the wall and decided to transform it into a permanent exhibition space.
The birth of the exhibition space saw visual artists and friends invited to Bakehouse Studios to re-imagine the interiors with immersive installations in the old rehearsal rooms. A wide range of artists including Patricia Piccinini, Julia deVille, Peter Milne, Mick Turner, Stewart Russell and the Hotham Street Ladies have since then transformed Bakehouse Studios’ rehearsal spaces entirely, creating a series of vibrant, unforgettable paste-ups.
From the lyrical to the audacious The Bakehouse Project celebrates this initiative with a unique blend of music, art and photography, which documents a year at the Bakehouse Studios. The full colour, hardcover book is believed to be a world-first collaborative project where art inspires and connects musicians in a working studio outside the traditional frames of a gallery. The book by Helen Marcou, Quincy McLean and Sophy Williams, is published by Schwartz City.
fluoro is offering you the chance to win a copy of The Bakehouse Project, which will immerse you in the colourful world of music, art and photography born out of the creative hub of Bakehouse Studios.
