Cédric Charlier SS14: An Inspired Structure
Presented at Paris Fashion Week Cédric Charlier’s SS14 collection was infused with references to the martial arts.
Featuring minimal silhouettes, architectural lines and a colour palette reduced to predominantly navy, black and white, the collection also featured splashes of bright coloured metallic leather. Structure was applied to white jackets through a simple black tie in a reference to the martial art belt system. While oversized tops were designed with a v-neck that subtly mimicked the style of karate uniforms and were accompanied with loose-fitting pants cut at the mid-calf. A series of metallic outfits were a notable departure from the otherwise monochromatic aesthetic.
Garments were accompanied by leather sandals that rose to the model’s mid-calf and featured an open toe, reminiscent of the footwear of Roman gladiators. A selection of particularly bold pairs were equipped with gold seams. Jewellery was equally as prominent – gold coloured chokers and bracelets were spiked and sat heavily upon the models.
