Choque Cultural: Tec
Argentinean artist Tec will transform São Paulo gallery, Choque Cultural into a space inspired by an aquarium.
Born in Cordoba, Argentina, Tec is influenced by urban culture, graffiti, travel and rock music. The 2001 economic crisis in his home country saw his work take to the streets with the development of street murals. Today he is responsible for some of the most emblematic interventions in São Paulo streets, notably Shrew and Gecko in the Jardins neighborhood.
Titled Swimming Pool, the exhibition at Choque Cultural marks the first time in his career that Tec has applied his style to sculpture. Twenty pieces in ceramics, small and large format, finished with automotive paint will float in the gallery space and will evoke the experience of being inside an aquarium. “When I painted a Beetle for my last individual exhibition in the city, I had to include all dimensions and all angles of that car. It was a new experience that inspired me to pursue the technique,” said Tec.
The exhibition will also feature a series of paintings produced in recent months that will compose the background of this aquarium-inspired space. The use of colours, limited to blue, red and black is characteristic of the artist’s work. With these few shades the artist expresses the stories, scenes and characters of the aquarium.
Swimming Pool marks Tec’s fourth time exhibiting at Choque Cultural and it will be on display from Saturday 26 July until Sunday 6 September 2014.
