Christopher Boots: Waves and Particles
An intersection of chemistry, light and angular sculpture is where one will find the lighting design by Christopher Boots.
Driven by a love of nature and light, Boots expresses himself through the design of unique lighting. His new collection, Phasmida, stems from the Greek word for apparition, and the design fits the name. Based on the appearance of amino acids, the building blocks of life, Phasmida is created with seven heads, and can be scaled up or down to create endless variations.
Following this, his Simple collection are shaped into various forms based on letters and symbols, and crafted from copper, zinc, iron, carbon and silicon, giving each design a weight and gravity that belies its function as a source of weightless light.
All products are hand made in Melbourne, Australia, using a broad variety of techniques from a team of artisans, such as glass-blowers, coppersmiths, ceramicists, sculptors, and bronze casters. The materials are then carefully composed to create balanced, subtle lighting for a multitude of spaces.
