Melbourne International Film Festival Launches
Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) will this week launch what is set to be 18 days of thought provoking cinema. Australian Premiere screenings will open and close the event.
Pedro Almodóvar’s comedy, ‘I’m So Excited’ (Los Amantes Pasajeros) will open the Festival. The film tells a the story of a Mexico-bound flight that runs into trouble and is put in a holding pattern. On board, the flamboyant cabin crew deal with the situation by drugging economy class to sleep and breaking out the tequila and mescaline in business class. Among the mix of passengers are a virgin psychic, a dominatrix, a soap star and a corrupt banker.
Closing night of the Festival will see another Australian Premiere with the screening of ‘All is Lost’, which is directed by J.C. Chandor. A film that is almost entirely dialogue free, ‘All is Lost’ explores the story of a solo sailor who is woken when a stray shipping container rips a hole in his 11-metre yacht. The sailor is left stranded and a tale of strength for survival unfolds.
The Melbourne International Film Festival runs from Thursday 25 July until Sunday 11 August 2013 at five venues across Melbourne.
