Denver Art Museum: Matisse and Friends
When Matisse and Friends released work from their artists, it shocked the art world with its raw approach. These pieces are now being showcased at an exhibition at the Denver Art Museum (DAM).
The exhibition consists of 14 paintings by artists Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, Albert Marquet, Maurice de Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Georges Braque and Kees Van Dongen.
It is said the art work from Matisse and Friends sparked a number of innovative movements in the modern art world as they worked in and around Paris at the turn of the 20th century. The artists formed a tightly-knit community that looked to redefine painting by focusing on an expressive style of loose brushwork and bold colours.
This exhibition is added as a compliment to the Brilliant Cartier in the 20th Century exhibition already being shown at DAM. According to Christoph Heinrich Frederick and Jan Mayer Director’s of DAM, the pieces from Matisse and Friends are “a perfect compliment,” to the dazzle of the Cartier viewing.
Pieces from Matisse and Friends will be available for view until Sunday 8 February 2015.
