Paris Men’s Fashion Week AW15/16: Concludes
With Paris Men’s Fashion Week AW15/16 coming to a close, we present three very diverse collections to wrap up the week.
Day one kicked off with a range of remarkable collections, including the politically charged collection from Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck. Rick Owens’ daring, uncensored collection, which confronted nudity and sex, was a major focus of the designer’s bold point of views on day two.
The following days saw a range of collections from some of the world’s leading designers including Phillip Lim, Maison Margiela and Givenchy. What brought these collections together was the degree of imaginative exploration. In terms of style, they ranged from military space, cheerfully retro, to dark goth.
Phillip Lim, who is known for structuring his collections around Western prototypes like surfers or easy riders, presented a collection that had a military/space cadet feel. In a different style, Maison Margiela presented a collection that oozed John Galliano’s characteristic cheerfulness. The collection was the first to be presented under new creative director Galliano. Accordingly, the collection expressed a sense of retro experimentation merging the essence of both Galliano and Margiela.
Givenchy’s presentation featured women alongside men in dark, surreal and theatrical looks by Riccardo Tisci. The goth-like collection was presented at Pavillion des Invalides where models walked with mouths seemingly wired shut or with Joker-esque smears over skin. The collection included skulls and pinstriped suits with layering a key component. The dominant colour was fire red, with red trims and red leather jackets forming part of the collection together. Neat beige jackets, and the ‘man shirt’, which the House is slowing becoming well known for, also featured within the AW15/16 collection from Givenchy.
