STUDIO WHITE LABEL X ELLIS SCOTT
Fashion producer STUDIO WHITE LABEL and fashion photographer Ellis Scott have collaborated up to create a series of photographs in which thought-provoking photojournalism comes together to create a SS15 editorial campaign.
STUDIO WHITE LABEL is a brand which produces a clothing line as well as a range of collaborative projects, exhibitions and music releases. The driven and customer-centric fashion output was founded as a reaction against name labels, societies perceptions of self, the fixation on celebrity designers and discriminatory pricings. Instead the brand focuses on the creative process and the collaborators involved as well as the enjoyment of the finished product.
With a determination to approach their SS15 campaign as a project rather than a usual lookbook, STUDIO WHITE LABEL and photographer Ellis Scott brought in characters across the images to support the underlying theme of identity, which is the core foundation of STUDIO WHITE LABEL.
The campaign was shot in Tel Aviv, where the casting also took place. Interested in their background and identity, two men Jacob and Egal, were cast for the campaign. Jacob, a fugitive of the genocide in Somalia fled to Israel to save his life. However, in Israel he is not a recognised citizen and consequently has taken on a rather anonymous existence. Egal, used to be a trance promoter making large scale euphoric raves, often drug fuelled, in the desert. Now he spend his days at home caring for his children after being forced into religion to win the hand of the woman he loved.
Both characters have a unique and remarkable relationship with their identity.
Tel Aviv as the chosen location offered a variety of raw and exciting scenes for the campaign ranging from the streets of Tel Aviv, Rishpon Sculpture Park and Danny Caravans White City. The photographer also tried to capture Tel Aviv outside a fashion context to present the environment and its link to identity.
Visuals are on display at the STUDIO WHITE LABEL pop-up store on Marshall Street, London, England.
