Milan Fashion Week AW15/16: Tribute to the Woman
Milan Fashion Week Women’s Ready to Wear AW15/16 presentations are coming to a close.
This season has seen a special focus on women in life’s different stages, with attention being drawn to the body through shapes, cuts and themes. Collections were characterised by a play with symbols of femininity.
Dolce & Gabbana
As suggested by its name, Viva la Mamma, Dolce & Gabbana’s AW15/16 women’s collection, was designed as a tribute to mothers. The designers mentioned in their show notes, that their next AW men’s and women’s collections would be dedicated to mothers in a effort to allow “fashion to be seen as an extension of where one comes from”.
The presentation resembled a family portrait with models walking the runway carrying babies and toddlers. One model was six months pregnant and graced the runway wearing a rose pregnancy dress. Garments within the collection, such as sweaters and dresses, held hidden messages in sequins. Children’s’ drawings also were a main feature of the collection and were embedded into silk dresses.
Missoni
Designer Angela Missoni tapped into a very eclectic feel with Missoni’s AW 15/16 collection.
The focus was on a younger audience and the neo body-conscious Missoni Woman. The collection consisted of tight dresses and layered looks with tight bodysuits and wrap shirts over leggings. The looks gave an urban feel elaborated with metallic yarns and vibrant colours.
Trussardi
Gaia Trussardi confirmed her love for leather, with the material a major focus in the AW15/16 collection. The collection’s first look featured a bustier and pants in pebbled leather. From the grey leather jumpsuits through to the body-conscious rib-knit dresses and skirts an eighties aviator theme shone through the collection. Looking to the woman in power, the collection featured sleek looks displaying confidence and domination.
Emilio Pucci
The collection presented by Emilio Pucci was characterised by bold looks in a range of colours and zodiac inspired fabrics and stripes. The collection was in traditional Pucci fashion, classic and elegant. The show featured 41-year old Czech model and actress Eva Herzigova, in a beaded velvet blazer and delicate chiffon gown. Her presence in the show reinforced that age has no boundaries.
As Milan Fashion Week is concluding, Paris Fashion Week prepares to commence tomorrow. Stay tuned to fluoro for coverage.
