Paris Fashion Week SS14: Concludes
From history, culture and humour to the solemn and sombre, fluoro looks to some of the messages evoked from the final day of Paris Fashion Week Ready to Wear SS14.
Louis Vuitton presented an all black affair, depicting the glamour of 1920s. The models were adorned with feathered headpieces and garments were heavily embellished. The show signified Marc Jacobs’ last collection as creative director for the House, a role that he has held for the past 16 years. The show was a grand departure for Jacobs and featured references to his past collections for Louis Vuitton – a carousel from SS12, a station clock from AW12 and escalators from SS13, a hint at his imminent departure which was announced after the show.
Botanical themes characterised both the Moncler Gamme Rouge and Hermés SS14 collection shows. Moncler Gamme Rouge’s presentation was set amongst a runway draped with foliage, with garments heavily featuring black leather and animal print. A person in a gorilla suit seen skateboarding along the runway added a sense of humour to the collection. While Hermés’ presented their collection amongst plants and greenery within Jardin du Luxemberg, this was where the similarities ended. Hermés’ collection featured softly structured garments, light jackets and tan leather, in true Hermés style.
Miu Miu’s Collection was a strong reference to the 1960s, with linoleum and patterned wallpaper panels setting the theme for the space. Coats were colourful with clashing pockets, while vinyl skirts shone in shades of pastel. Footwear also referenced the 1960s, with Mary Jane heels paired with textured stockings and lace-up knee-high boots, featured in shades of red, green and velvet.
Paris Fashion Week will return for the AW14 season in February 2014.
