Wall of Sound
Known for their authentic and meaningful work, HM. present the Wall of Sound, an installation of boomboxes.
We spoke to creative director Miguel Valenzuela about the piece, which was inspired by urban culture. The installation was developed to celebrate an 18-year anniversary of the creative agency Valenzuela co-owns. Each boombox used within the piece was handpicked from Valenzuela’s large personal collection. The installation was purpose built as a functional DJ booth.
“This piece is all about my personal connection with boomboxes and the urban world for this milestone celebration. What a boombox represents is self-expression. A personality sharing its soul,” Valenzuela explains. Being all about music the art installation was created with a story and a social message.
“Music was once shared.” Valenzuela points out, “A gathering of people. This has been lost as we isolate ourselves with personal audio devices. This piece was designed to be a magnet – encouraging the sharing of thoughts, ideas and moments.”
HM. are unveiling another installation at a TEDxStKilda event on Sunday 29 March 2015. The piece will represent the event theme When Dark Meets Light. For more on the TEDxStKilda x HM Group project click here. Stay tuned to HM.’s Facebook page for updates from the event.
