Leon Bridges: The New Voice of Soul
One and a half years ago no one knew his name. Today his voice and combined sound of gospel and soul has attracted many record labels from around the globe. While still fairly unknown the fast emerging artist Leon Bridges has now hit the top 10 of viral tracks with his first official single Coming Home.
Bridges’ smooth rhythm and blues bring back the 1960s with a fresh twist, which is his own vocalisation. From his own personal style, love for black and white images, and the music videos to his sound, the artist seems to have stepped out of history to bring back the glorious days of soul and gospel. His career started with song writing before he learnt to play the guitar in order to accompany his lyrics with simple chords and started to play locally at open mic nights in Fort Worth, Texas while working as a dishwasher. His musical style was formed from one of his early songs Lisa Sawyer, a tender soul song about his mother.
The release of two demo tracks in late 2014 attracted a range of record labels and by the end of 2014 Bridges had signed a contract with Columbia Records. Soon after he went on his first national tour in January 2015 and released Coming Home in February 2015. Gaining ground fast, Bridges played at SXSW in March 2015.
Singing straight from the heart, Bridges will be releasing his debut album mid-2015.
