Paris Men’s Fashion Week SS16: Visual Journey
Paris Men’s Fashion Week SS16 has come to a close. We bring you the highlights of the week.
Comfort was a major element across this season, bringing in a minimalist design approach and a focus on recreation across the presentations. The collections showcased were diverse in their approach to design, style and their heritage.
Strength was the focus in Haider Ackerman’s collection, which brought to life the feeling of a conqueror with shoulders strong, and waists belted and slender. The styles presented form a signature outline that does this designer well, placing him ahead of others for wielding it so skillfully. Also powerful but in a different style, Rick Owens’ collection titled Cyclops, introduced a new anti-establishment uniform, drawing inspiration from his love and admiration for the work of artists Steven Parrino and John Chamberlain.
The SS16 season at Paris also saw a broad variety in tailoring. A first for Yohji Yamamoto, the designer’s collection included a tight suit, which in his own words was “Very interesting and challenging. Because if you do not do it seriously, it can only look businessman. But these are not businessmen … 007.” On the other hand, Rei Kawakubo presented a collection for Comme des Garçons titled Broken Tailoring, which saw the designer approach the men’s suit with a deconstruct/reconstruct mentality. Breaking down the art of tailoring Kawakubo produced tailored garments with an artful aesthetic.
Sports and adventure also featured as themes in Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Dior Homme, went for a blend of traditional elegance and sportswear. In this collection, Artistic Director Kris Van Assche paid homage to the bomber jacket and blazer. Finally, the long awaited presentation of Olivier Rousteing’s first collection for Balmain kicked off with the hardcore techno track Prepare for Glory. Rousteing looked to the great adventurers of the early 20th century for inspiration on the collection with a unique and old-fashioned twist.
Strength and comfort, classic and artistic tailoring, sports and adventure. Paris Men’s Fashion Week SS16 brought a range of extraordinary styles for every taste. Stay connected to fluoro for more in fashion as we approach the Paris Haute Couture season.
