Nils Frahm – Late Night Tales
Berlin-based composer, musician and producer Nils Frahm curates the new edition of Late Night Tales.
Late Night Tales are known to invite the best artists from across the world to delve deep into their music collections and create exceptional ‘late night’ selections. As the latest participant in the Late Night Tales mix series, Frahm has curated a compilation, which brings together music from across a broad variety of genres.
The process of creating the compilation saw Frahm experiment with tunes from a broad variety of sources and music media. These range from a hand-cranked phonograph and 45s albums on vinyl to mini-disks and MP3s. Frahm layered, sampled, looped and extracted phrases, tunes and pieces from these diverse sources, leading to an album that is not so much a mix as it is a gentle layering of sound.
The result is a compilation of music as an art form and an album that takes listeners on a spellbinding journey through modern and classical composition, experimental electronics, jazz, dub techno, soundtracks and soul.
The album features a cover by Frahm of John Cage’s 4’33 and a solo piano edit of his own track Them. Further, the mix contains music by Four Tet, Boards of Canada, Bibio, Colin Stetson, Nina Simone, as well as two tracks by Miles Davis. Concluding the album is a new spoken-word piece by Cillian Murphy titled In the Morning.
The album is set for release on Friday 11 September 2015 and is available for pre-order at www.latenighttales.co.uk.
