Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain
The city of Paris will celebrate art and culture with the 40th edition of the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) set to begin.
The Fair recognises the transformations that are taking place in the art gallery world by acknowledging other aspects of creative culture aside from art. FIAC integrates film, music, theatre and debates within the cultural programme of the Fair. Incorporating the whole city, outdoor exhibitions of sculptures and installations are presented together with performance programmes, lecture series and screenings of artists’ films.
Highlights of the event include:
– The Grand Palais as a central point of the Fair, plays host to numerous significant contemporary art galleries, uniting a selection of work from around the globe.
– A site-specific installation by Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata at Comité Vendôme adds to the Paris skyline and challenges the existing impression of urban disorder.
– A series of debates will integrate art, science and philosophy. Based on the theme ‘Political art: when culture becomes activist’ each will bring together an artist, a scientist from the Natural History Museum and a philosopher.
– For the fourth consecutive year, FIAC will present Cinéphémère in the Tuileries Garden. The Cinéphémère is a 14-seat cinema that is entirely equipped and installed in a custom-built shipping container.
The 40th edition of FIAC takes place in Paris at the Grand Palais, the Jardin des Tuileries, the Jardin des Plantes and the Place Vendôme from Thursday 24 – Sunday 27 October, 2013.
