Jason Evans: A sense of the familiar
In a reference to traditional street photography, Jason Evans’ photo series, ‘NYLPT’, layers snapshots from iconic cities: New York; London; Paris and Tokyo, creating a fuse of the city’s identities.
‘NYLPT’ is a result of Evans’ compulsive visual collecting from his travels to the cities. Inspired by the use of ‘technique,’ Evan’s experiments with the effect of randomly layering double exposures on film. Evans invests in chance, luck and persistence. What emerges is a series of images that are both familiar and strange.
A recently released iPad app edition offers a unique way of viewing the ‘NYLPT’ photo series. Randomly generated sequences of Evans’ street photographs are combined with an evolving soundtrack that was created through a combination of 17 synthesizers.
Evan’s ‘NYLPT’ for iPad was created by MAPP and is available through iTunes.
