For Light and Memory
For Light and Memory is a solo exhibition by Ukrainian-Danish artist Sergei Sviatchenko, one of the most influential innovators of modern collage.
The collection of paintings, collages and mixed media stem from Sviatchenko’s new series For Light and Memory and from his ongoing project Less. They are currently displayed in Gestalten’s exhibition space.
The works from For Light and Memory are based on the book Andrei Tarkovsky: A Collector of Dreams about the groundbreaking Soviet and Russian filmmaker. These works are a photographic collage of poetry. The featured pieces, are known to leave viewers in a state of satisfied confusion about real places or those known from memory.
The works from Less, in contrast, provide an insight into the reflection of popular culture. Sviatchenko turns his collage of everyday items into sculptural expressions. Sviatchenko stands out as an artist with a unique vision.
The first comprehensive collection of Sviatchenko’s collage and paintings are documented in Gestalten’s title Everything Goes Right & Left If You Want It.
The Sviatchenko exhibition will be on display until Sunday 3 March 2013 at Gestalten Space, Berlin, Germany. The publication is available from the Gestalten shop.
