Hiroshi Sugimoto: Revolution
Hiroshi Sugimoto’s celebrated international reputation is based on his photography. In recent years, however, he has become engaged with other genres such as architecture, furniture, objects, and fashion all play an increasingly important role in his work.
Sugimoto has given this suite of works – publicly displayed for the first time at the Museum Brandhorst – the title “Revolution”. He reveals a radically different understanding of the term ‘revolution’ in the fifteen large-format works. It is not political or social unrest to which Sugimoto alludes, but rather a new insight in the word with a sense of ‘suspension’ or ‘outturning’ of previously accepted laws/practices through new methods.
Hiroshi Sugimoto. Revolution will run until Sunday 10 February 2013 at the Museum Brandhorst, Munich, Germany.
