Sacha Walckhoff: Minotaures
In the wake of the release of Sacha Walckhoff’s Minotaures project for Galerie Gosserez, fluoro offers an exclusive insight into the making of the collection.
Walckhoff the Creative Director of Christian Lacroix designed the Minotaures collection after being heavily inspired by a trip iconic porcelain and lead crystal manufacturer Vista Alegre’s Ilhavo factory. He was immediately attracted to the “Touro Domecq”, an emblematic piece created by the manufacturer. From this experience, the unique Minotaures collection came to life.
“I wanted a slightly surrealistic effect, between reality and fantasy, an allusion to the worlds of Cocteau, Magritte and Picasso, and especially to the pre-war magazine “Minotaure” published by André Breton.
I have always been fascinated by the symbolism that this mythological character represents – at once ferocious and poetic, halfway between animal instinct and human conscience. It is from this duality that the “Minotaures” collection was born,” Walckhoff said.
The Minotaures collection has been hand-crafted by Vista Alegre in Portugal involving a lengthy process. The process ensures each object is completed with an artisans touch from the creation of moulds and firing the porcelain, to the final intricate hand painting. The formation of the bull (pictured) requires 28 moulds and five days to create the final piece. The collection comprises of 12 hand-painted objects, each personally signed by Walckhoff for Galerie Gosserez.
Galerie Gosserez show collections that are mostly edited and produced directly by the Galerie, or shown and distributed in exclusivity. They create an elegant and refined universe, which unique character becomes more obvious with successive exhibitions.
‘Sacha Walckhoff: Minotaures’ will launch at Galerie Gosserez on Thursday 30 January 2014 and will be on display until Saturday 22 February 2014.
